Burning Fat after Menopause?

Is it possible? Can it be done?

Can you look better at 50 than you did at 30?

The answer is yes, but it’s gonna take a little more effort. You see, as women age, they begin to loose the ability to burn fat as efficiently and begin to store more fat in the areas where it is most unsightly… abdomen, thighs, etc. But don’t dismay – exercising more frequently, eating the right foods, and monitoring your estrogen can get you on the right track for success.

Exercising more frequently or more vigorously than you did before can help to keep off the extra pounds. Your metabolism is decreasing every year, thus the intensity and duration of your exercise routine must increase. If you are struggling with weight gain, you need to incorporate more challenging cardio into your routine. Some women will need to follow a 75% cardio, 25% strength training routine in order to keep unwanted pounds away. Generally striving to be more active throughout the day should help as well. Figure out how to add extra movement into your daily routine and avoid sitting for long periods of time.

When it comes to nutrition, cutting back on highly processed carbs is essential, as is cutting back on your alcohol intake. You can no longer drink like a sorority girl at 55 and expect for your hips to stay slim! You will need to take it easy on the sugar and fat in order to keep your figure in check. You can still eat and drink, but try to eat lighter options and drink during happy hour, not at 8 or 9pm. Generally avoiding food and drink 2 – 3 hours before bedtime is ideal.

I have many clients who are in great shape even as their bodies begin to do all sorts of not fun things. You can look and feel great after menopause too with a little extra effort, focus, and determination to succeed!
