How was your May Day?

If you are sitting & starting at your screen & thinking “it’s May?!”, you might be the type of person who doesn’t like to operate on a schedule too much. This may be a problem if you have a beach trip coming up soon or need to wear shorts and a tank top to a festival this weekend. This year winter was especially long and summer has crept up on us Louisianians like a thief in the night. If you are starting to panic at the word “summer” and break into a cold sweat, hold on, there is hope for you! I have three tips in today’s post that you can start doing TODAY to get ready to look & feel your best on a time crunch:

TIP 1: STOP eating crap. Just stop. Get it out of your house and don’t go buy any more. Trash the candy, the cookies, and the potato chips. Those foods are causing that flabby skin that looks unsightly in a swimsuit, so just get rid of them. START eating more fruits and vegetables. When you stop doing something, you must start doing something else, so replace your junk food with fruits and veggies which are packed with fiber and antioxidants and much more helpful to your body. Sweet tooth? Strawberries, cherries, raisins, or pineapple are yummy choices. Like crisp and crunchy? Pick up an apple. Want to cool down? Freeze some grapes and enjoy them on a warm day.

TIP 2: COMMIT to cardio. In order to burn fat you must get your heart rate up and get a little sweaty. Like most days of the week. 2 days is not going to cut it. Spark People has a great challenge for the month of May called #MayMiles. Every single day in May, the challenge is to complete 1 mile – you choose how. You can walk, run, bike, or swim, it’s up to you. Read about the challenge by following this link – I’ll look forward to seeing your success!

TIP 3: PLANK every day to keep the belly flab away. I love planks. I love them because they are challenging no matter how good of shape you are in. And you can always improve. If you can hold a plank on your toes for 60 seconds, can you do it on 1 foot? How about 1 foot and 1 hand? How about on your elbows? How about adding cardio – plank jacks, burpees, etc? There are so many variations of the plank, you could do a different variation every day for a year and not cover them all. If you need some ideas, head to the Google for about a million different variations on the ever popular 30 Day plank challenge. And get plankin!

There you have it – 3 easy steps to get started on right now to start your off your fitness-focused summer months! Summer is what fitness fanatics live for, the chance to show off their hard earned arm muscles, the opportunity to test their endurance under the hot sun, the possibility of water sports, and on and on.
